Happy Winter Solstice and Yule 2013

Winter SolsticeTomorrow is the Winter Solstice or Yule. On this day, the sun halts its journey south in the sky, pauses, and then begins to move north. This means that it’s the shortest day of the year in the Northern hemisphere and the longest day in the Southern hemisphere.

The Winter Solstice is the perfect day for you to pause with the Sun, go within, and restore balance. You can draw on these astrological energies of the Sun’s rebirth for your own transformation. From this day on the Sun will slowly begin to illuminate our lives more and more every day until the next Solstice. Let go of all that has been holding you back during these dark months, and turn your focus on building up your energies for a positive goal.

It is traditional to light a flame – whether a candle or a fire – to welcome back the Sun and bless your home, your loved ones, and yourself. Red, green, white or blue candles are common, and you can decorate it with evergreens (pine, mistletoe, juniper, cedar, rosemary) and other seasonal items. Remember – it’s bad luck to blow out the candle. Use a snuffer or tongs to pinch it out instead.

However you celebrate the holidays this season, we wish you great joy and blessings!
